Precision Coaxial Power Dividers for Balanced Signal Distribution
AO Microwave’s high-precision coaxial power dividers are designed to split an input signal into multiple output channels with minimum loss. Housed in rugged, passivated aluminum or copper cavities, our dividers are constructed using Wilkinson microstrip or stripline networks printed on low-loss high-frequency laminates. Operating up to 40 GHz with standard 2-way, 4-way, and 8-way configurations, our dividers achieve low insertion losses (typically < 0.50 dB), an amplitude balance of < 0.20 dB, a phase tracking error of < 3.0°, and port-to-port isolation of > 20 dB across the band.
By utilizing precisely matched internal branch paths and high-grade chip isolation resistors, our power dividers ensure consistent, low-VSWR signal routing. They are critical for phased array antenna feeds, active transceiver networks, and multi-channel laboratory test configurations.

Understanding Wilkinson Design & Port Isolation
Coaxial power dividers often utilize Wilkinson microstrip topologies to split signals. When a signal enters the input port, it is split equally across two quarter-wavelength transmission lines, which are bridged at the outputs by a balancing resistor.
Under balanced conditions (where the output loads are identical in phase and amplitude), no current flows across this resistor, keeping insertion losses low. However, if the output ports are mismatched, the unbalanced power is dissipated across this resistor, providing high port-to-port isolation. AO Microwave utilizes high-performance thin-film chip isolation resistors on alumina substrates, ensuring stable isolation (typically > 20 dB) and low VSWR across the band.
