Dual Circular Polarization Horn Antenna
Dual Circular Polarization Horn Antenna supports both left-hand and right-hand circular polarization for advanced antenna measurement and communication systems. Widely used in satellite communication, radar systems, RF research laboratories and mmWave testing platforms.
High-Isolation Dual Circular Polarization Horn Antennas for Satellite Tracking
AO Microwave’s high-precision dual circular polarization horn antennas are designed to simultaneously transmit and receive both Left-Hand Circular (LHCP) and Right-Hand Circular (RHCP) polarized signals through a single physical aperture. Precision-machined from lightweight aluminum and copper alloys, these antennas integrate advanced circular waveguide junctions with high-performance stepped septum polarizers. Operating across standard bands up to 40 GHz, our dual circular horn antennas achieve an outstanding inter-port isolation of typically > 25 to 30 dB, an Axial Ratio of < 1.5 dB on both channels, and a stable input VSWR of < 1.30:1 across the band.
By separating the co-propagating orthogonal circular modes, our antennas enable efficient frequency-reuse setups. They are critical for dual-channel satellite ground tracking stations, high-capacity space telemetry links, and electronic warfare polarization intelligence systems.

The Electromagnetics of Stepped Septum Polarizers
Dual circular polarization horn antennas operate by generating two orthogonal circular modes simultaneously. In a square or circular waveguide section, a stepped metal plate—the septum polarizer—is placed along the center axis, dividing the waveguide into two independent feed ports.
When a signal enters Port 1, the stepped septum introduces a 90-degree phase delay between the horizontal and vertical E-field vector components, generating a highly pure Left-Hand Circularly Polarized (LHCP) wave at the aperture. Conversely, feeding Port 2 generates a Right-Hand Circularly Polarized (RHCP) wave. This passive metallic design eliminates the dielectric losses of plate polarizers, providing high isolation (typically > 25 dB) and low VSWR across the band.
Target Applications & Operational Advantages
By providing simultaneous dual-circular radiation with low axial ratios, our antennas secure high-capacity links:
Frequency-Reuse Satellite Ground Stations
Function: Transmits and receives independent data streams on the same frequency band using orthogonal LHCP and RHCP channels.
Advantage: High inter-port isolation (>25 dB) prevents cross-talk, doubling system data capacity without increasing spectrum bandwidth.
Space-to-Ground Telemetry Links
Function: Maintains simultaneous transmit/receive commands and telemetry channels with spacecraft payloads.
Advantage: Symmetrical septum design aligns both phase centers perfectly, preventing signal dropouts caused by satellite rotation or attitude drift.
EW Polarization-Diversity Intelligence
Function: Intercepts unknown broadband circular signals in electronic warfare surveillance networks.
Advantage: Low axial ratio (<1.5 dB) on both ports ensures highly accurate polarization tracking and signal profiling.
