Dual Polarization Horn Antenna
Dual Polarization Horn Antenna supports both horizontal and vertical polarization for advanced RF measurements and communication systems. Suitable for radar testing, satellite communication research, antenna characterization, mmWave measurements and microwave laboratories.
High-Performance Dual Polarization Horn Antennas for Multi-Channel Systems
AO Microwave’s high-precision dual polarization horn antennas are designed to simultaneously transmit and receive two orthogonal polarizations (vertical and horizontal) through a single physical aperture with high isolation. Precision-fabricated from high-grade aluminum alloys via CNC milling, these quad-ridged horns incorporate precisely matched internal orthogonal ports. Operating up to 40 GHz with standard SMA and 2.92mm (K) connector options, our dual polarization horns achieve a high port-to-port isolation of typically > 30 dB, low input VSWR of < 1.50:1 on both ports, and highly balanced phase and amplitude tracking across the band.
By utilizing precisely balanced internal quad-ridge structures and feed junctions, our antennas ensure stable dual-polarized performance. They are critical for multi-channel radar systems, dual-polarization weather radars, and electronic warfare (EW) polarization-diversity receivers.

Understanding Quad-Ridge Symmetry & Polarization Isolation
Dual polarization horn antennas achieve simultaneous orthogonal transmission by using internal quad-ridge structures. In a standard rectangular horn, only a single linear polarization can propagate. By incorporating four internal ridges spaced symmetrically at 90-degree intervals inside a square or circular waveguide section, we allow two orthogonal TE10 and TE01 modes to propagate independently.
Maintaining high cross-polarization isolation (typically > 30 dB) is a key design challenge. Any physical asymmetry in the quad-ridge structure or the feed junction will couple energy between the vertical and horizontal ports, degrading isolation. AO Microwave utilizes precision CNC machining to hold symmetry tolerances within ±0.02 mm, ensuring highly balanced electrical performance.
Target Applications & Operational Advantages
By providing high port-to-port isolation and balanced radiation patterns, our dual polarization horn antennas secure critical active systems:
Polarization-Diversity Radar Systems
Function: Transmits and receives orthogonally polarized signals (vertical/horizontal) to enhance clutter rejection and target identification.
Advantage: High port-to-port isolation (>30 dB) prevents cross-talk, ensuring accurate target classification.
Dual-Polarization Weather Radars
Function: Measures the differential reflectivity of rain, snow, and hail in meteorological radar networks.
Advantage: Exceptional phase and amplitude tracking between ports ensure highly accurate hydrometeor classification.
EW Polarization-Diversity Receivers
Function: Monitors broadband signals of unknown polarization in electronic warfare setups.
Advantage: Symmetrical quad-ridge feed allows for simultaneous horizontal and vertical power tracking across multi-octave bands.
