End-launch Waveguide to Coaxial Adapter
End-launch Waveguide to Coaxial Adapter provides direct coaxial interface integration with waveguide structures. Ideal for microwave modules, RF test fixtures, radar subsystems and high-frequency mmWave measurement equipment.
High-Precision End-Launch Waveguide to Coaxial Adapters
AO Microwave’s inline end-launch waveguide to coaxial adapters provide transition parallel to the waveguide propagation path. Machined from lightweight aluminum alloys and durable copper, these inline adapters feature gold-plated coaxial contacts to prevent oxidation and maintain low electrical resistance. Available across standard bands up to 110 GHz with high-frequency coaxial interfaces—such as 2.92mm (K) for WR-28 and 2.4mm/1.85mm/1.0mm for higher millimeter-wave bands—our adapters deliver a stable typical VSWR of < 1.25:1 and low insertion losses of < 0.25 dB.
These inline adapters are engineered to simplify routing in space-constrained layouts. By eliminating the bulky physical bend of right-angle adapters, they enable straight-line coaxial connections, making them highly suited for dense pencil-beam antenna feeds, active electronically scanned arrays (AESA), and compact mmWave receiver modules.

Broadband Matching via Step-Ridge loading
Achieving a wide bandwidth in an inline transition is much more complex than in a right-angle design. Because there is no natural backshort cavity to reflect waves, end-launch adapters introduce the coaxial inner pin directly through the narrow wall or along the center axis. Without proper matching elements, this structure behaves like a highly inductive mismatch, restricting the useful operating bandwidth.
To resolve this, AO Microwave designs its end-launch adapters with internal step-ridge transformers. By incorporating tapered metal steps (ridges) inside the waveguide chamber, we gradually step down the waveguide’s high characteristic impedance to match the 50-ohm coaxial line. This specialized geometry distributes reflections over multiple physical steps, suppressing capacitive discontinuities and ensuring a flat VSWR response across full waveguide bands.
Key Benefits in Phased Arrays & AESA Systems
- Ultra-Compact Footprint: Allows multiple adapters to be placed side-by-side in high-density antenna feed networks where traditional right-angle adapters would physically clash.
- Mechanical Stress Protection: Built with robust stainless steel outer threads to protect the internal probe transition from physical torque when connecting heavy coaxial cables during testing.
- Highly Uniform Assembly: Microscopic assembly alignment processes lock the coupling probe in place, ensuring consistent phase behavior across multiple channels.
