Managing Compression & Sealing in Flange Grooves
Gaskets require proper compression to establish a secure seal inside waveguide flange grooves. O-type gaskets must be compressed enough to fill the microscopic surface irregularities of the mating flanges without being crushed.
If the gasket is overtightened, the elastomer can exceed its elastic limit, causing permanent deformation (compression set) and potential physical failure.
