Precision Waveguide Calibration Kits for Accurate VNA Measurements
AO Microwave’s high-precision waveguide calibration kits are engineered to establish an accurate and repeatable electrical reference plane for Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs) up to 110 GHz. Fabricated from premium, low-expansion copper alloys and lightweight aluminum blocks, our kits feature hand-polished calibration standards—including fixed short plates, offset shorts, precision terminations, and straight waveguide segments—all plated with high-purity gold to minimize surface resistivity and prevent oxidation. Supporting standard calibration algorithms such as TRL, SOLT, and TRM across bands from WR-90 to WR-10, these kits deliver a return loss of typically > 40 dB for matching loads and an offset length accuracy of ±0.01 mm.
By correcting for systematic measurement errors, our calibration kits ensure high accuracy during device verification. They are essential for laboratory R&D, space-qualification component testing, and millimeter-wave production quality control.

Understanding Systematic Error Correction & VNA Calibration
An uncalibrated Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) suffers from systematic errors caused by cable reflections, adapter mismatches, and instrument drift. To establish an accurate, repeatable reference plane, these errors must be mathematically modeled and removed.
To resolve these measurement errors, AO Microwave provides high-precision calibration standards engineered to meet tight physical tolerances. By loading the calibration coefficient definitions (VNA state files) and measuring our known standards, the VNA computes error terms and removes them from subsequent measurements. This precision ensures high accuracy when evaluating active and passive microwave components.
